Arrest made over Yellowknife gas station knife robbery

Police investigating an armed robbery at Yellowknife’s Esso gas station have made an arrest.

At around 3:45am on Wednesday, according to RCMP, a lone male suspect armed with a “large knife” entered the store on the corner of Forrest Drive and Franklin Avenue.

The man escaped with $70 in cash from the register after the store clerk fled the premises.

On Thursday afternoon, police said an arrest had been made at a Yellowknife residence. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending. No further information about the individual in custody has been released.

In April this year, both the Esso store and the city’s Shell gas station fell victim to attacks from suspects wielding a form of pepper spray.
