A Yellowknife couple is $500,000 richer thanks to a winning Lotto Max ticket, according to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC).
John Madsen and Cheryl Cleary shared one of 33 MaxMillions prizes with another winning ticket in the February 5 draw.

“I went to check the ticket and all I saw was major winner,” Madsen told the lottery corporation. “Cheryl didn’t believe me when I told her.
“To be honest, I didn’t believe me. It’s pretty overwhelming when you win something like that.”
The couple says they plan on using their winnings to pay off bills and take a trip or two.
“We’ve been wanting to go to New York City for some time now,” said Madsen. “So we’ll make our way over there one of these days.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Shell gas station on Range Lake Road.
This Friday’s Lotto Max jackpot is an estimated $43 million.
