Firearms, knives stolen during break and enters in Hay River

Hay River RCMP say firearms and knives were stolen during a recent string of break and enters in the community.

A total of three break and enters involving businesses have been reported in the past two weeks.

The first took place at the Ehdah Cho Store on the Hay River reserve, where the front door window was smashed and cigarettes were stolen on April 18.

That same day, several knives were reported stolen from the local Home Hardware store after the storefront window and a display case in the building were smashed.

RCMP say a third break and enter was reported on Wednesday at Monster Recreation. Again, the building’s front windows were smashed to gain entry.

Several firearms, including two rifles and three shotguns, were stolen after a locked gun cabinet was broken into.

“These recent break and enter incidents are highly unusual for the area,” said RCMP in a statement.

“It is important to note that these businesses have had to close for a short period of time to allow the processing of the scene and the securing of the buildings themselves.”

Should you have any information about this investigation, contact Hay River RCMP at (867) 874-1111 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
