A fire that ripped through a home in Yellowknife’s Old Town neighbourhood Tuesday morning isn’t being considered suspicious in nature.
That’s according to the City of Yellowknife, which issued a press release Wednesday.
At approximately 6:30am Tuesday, crews were dispatched to 3815 Bretzlaff Drive after receiving reports of a structure fire.
When the fire was first reported, flames were isolated to the front exterior of the building though smoke had also managed to seep inside.
Before crews could arrive, help was provided by Bromley & Sons and the territory’s Department of Environment and Natural Resources, which provided water tankers and pumps and hoses respectively.
Once an attack was initiated, firefighters tried to contain the blaze to the front of the building as much as possible.
But efforts to do so proved unsuccessful as the fire travelled in the roof space – eventually burning through the main part of the structure.
“The Fire Division tried to salvage as much of the remaining structure as possible,” read a statement issued by city officials.
“Once all hotspots were eliminated … the Fire Division allowed the homeowners access only to remove personal items.”
All three of the building’s occupants and four dogs were able to escape the fire safely after shutting off power.
A total of 23 personnel and more than half a dozen emergency vehicles attended the scene. At this time, the fire is not considered to be suspicious in nature.
