The first open air fire ban of the year has been put in place for Yellowknife.
Effective immediately, no burning is allowed within city limits.
With the fire danger index at extreme around the Yellowknife, the ban includes the use of approved fire pits within the city.
Eight new wildfires have been reported in the last 48 hours across the territory, bringing the total to 33 this year.
15 fires are being monitored while crews continue to douse three other fires.
Roughly 15,959 hectares have burned so far this year.
