Complaining just got easier – Yellowknife launches ‘Click & Fix’ phone app

Yellowknife, NWT – Something strange in your neighbourhood? Something weird, and it don’t look good? Who you gonna call?

Call? What century do you think this is? The city now has an app for that.

The City of Yellowknife launched its “Click & Fix” app on Wednesday, which lets residents take photos of issues that need addressing, then send details directly to City Hall.

According to the city’s (new-look) website, the app can tackle issues like “potholes, graffiti, broken parking meters, general disrepair and litter”.

The Android version of the app currently, proudly declares there are “no issues” near Moose FM headquarters. Although equally, Google’s Play Store – where you download the app, which is free – says there have been only a handful of downloads in the app’s young life to date.

The app is also available for iPhone, Blackberry and Windows phones, or you can use a web-based version on the city’s website.

When opened, the app’s menu gives users quick links to the city’s Facebook and Twitter pages plus – most importantly – the option to either report a problem or ask the city a question.

Hitting ‘report’ brings up a map of your current location (which you can amend if it’s not quite right), a category (e.g. blocked drainage, graffiti, pothole, overflowing garbage bin), the option to add a photo and the chance to provide any additional details.

Once you hit send, the report goes to the relevant city department and, according to the city, you get updates via email.

“It’s simple software that anybody can use,” says Dennis Kefalas, the city’s senior administrative officer, in a promotional video issued by the city.

“By clicking a picture, it will identify the location for you, and you can submit it. We will notify you when the concern has been addressed.

“It’s an excellent system that allows us to be progressive in delivering a very effective, efficient service to our residents.”
