RCMP constable sentenced in attempted fraud case

A Yellowknife RCMP constable has received a conditional sentence after pleading guilty to attempted fraud.

According to an RCMP statement, Constable Nathan White will serve a three-month sentence in the community “where he must abide by several court-imposed conditions including a curfew”.

Constable White remains suspended from duty while an internal code-of-conduct investigation continues. He was suspended with pay in May 2013.

White stood accused of submitting false overtime claims of more than $3,200. He had initially pleaded not guilty to charges of fraud under $5,000, forgery and uttering a forged document, but changed his plea to guilty regarding one count of attempted fraud in November last year. The other charges were dropped.

White, an RCMP member since 2007, served in Tuktoyaktuk before moving to Yellowknife.
