East coast music festival coming to Yellowknife this summer

A handful of award-winning Canadian musicians will make their way to Yellowknife this summer to perform in the city’s first annual East Coast Garden Party.

The music festival will take place on the weekend of Jun. 16 on Multiplex grounds.

It will then travel to Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie and Cold Lake before returning to Fort McMurray for a fifth and final show on the weekend of Aug. 25.

Organizer Justin Elliott says at least two Juno Award-winning artists will be coming to Yellowknife for the summer festival. East coast acts and local musicians will also form part of the event.

Elliott added that the festival ‘definitely has legs to stand on’ and that previous shows have been a big success down south.

On top of live music, there will also be a beer garden for adults and carnival rides for younger audience members.

There should be a good selection of food, too. Elliott says organizers plan on flying in fresh seafood to complement some of the city’s local food vendors.

“We all know that the best parties just happen,” read an excerpt on the festival’s website. “In Newfoundland, this usually happens in the kitchen and if too many friends show up, you get moved to outside, hence the Garden.”

All other event details, including the lineup and ticket costs, will be announced on 100.1 the Moose Friday morning.
