Yellowknifers can break out their dancing shoes. Just in time for the weekend, a new nightclub is opening downtown.

The owners of Twist and Shout will be unveiling a new club in a familiar location, in the basement of their building on 50 Street.

Currently only the top half of Twist is open to customers, but after two years of work and a little TLC, Shout will open this Friday at 8 p.m.

Co-owner Jason Perrino says he and his partner have been working on the club since January 2015, and finally got their liquor license Monday.

The location is the same as their other downtown establishment, but Perrino insists their atmospheres couldn’t be more different.

“Twist is a karaoke, cocktail lounge place,” he explained. “While Shout is a nightclub, dance club entertainment venue.”

The Raven has been a staple Friday night dance club in Yellowknife for years, but Perrino thinks there’s room for more in town.

“This town is very hungry for new, unique spaces that are wide open,” he said.

Perrino says they’ll have to wait and see how the new club plays out.

The club has an occupancy of 130 people, and will be open Thursdays to Sundays.
