In a statement, De Beers Canada says people should avoid driving up the winter road as the region continues to get hit with heavy blowing snow and blizzard-like conditions.

“Due to heavy blowing snow and winds still continuing in the area of the Gahcho Kué winter road, it is advisable that public residents do not drive up the winter road until further notice,” the statement read.

The mining company says anyone driving on the industrial winter road does so at their own risk as there are also no public services in the area.
