RCMP seize 50 bottles of liquor, 100 beers bound for Tulita

RCMP made two sizable liquor seizures on the ice road leading into the hamlet of Tulita over the weekend.

After initiating a traffic stop on Saturday, police located and seized 49 12-ounce bottles of liquor, a 26-ounce bottle of liquor and 51 cans of beer.

A separate patrol resulted in the seizure of 48 cans of beer and four bottles of wine from another vehicle.

Tulita, located in the territory’s Sahtu region, is a restricted community where the quantity of liquor a person can possess is strictly limited.

RCMP from the Norman Wells detachment assisted in the investigation.

“The unlawful sale of alcohol preys on those in society who may be struggling with addictions,” said RCMP Cst. Robert Frizzell in a statement.

“We continue to work with our community partners in disrupting the unlawful supply of alcohol to vulnerable persons.

“This is a great example of cooperation between two RCMP detachments sharing information that resulted in the successful intercepting of illegal liquor.”
