Five Yellowknifers face cocaine trafficking, other charges

Five Yellowknifers are facing a total of eight cocaine trafficking charges following a drug investigation in the city’s downtown late last week.

On Thursday, the RCMP’s Federal Investigations Unit and officers with the Yellowknife detachment executed search warrants at three downtown residences.

Seven people were arrested. Two were later released without charges, while the remaining suspects – between the ages of 22 and 40 – face a total of eight trafficking charges.

Four suspects have been released and will appear in court on Apr. 25.

The fifth suspect, 40-year-old Russell Hamilton, faces two additional charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of obstructing a police officer and two counts of failure to comply with a probation order.

He remains in police custody.
