Habitat for Humanity NWT received $50,000 in grant money

Habitat for Humanity NWT has been awarded $50,000 in grant money from the Yellowknife Community Foundation (YCF) according to an announcement made Monday.

Habitat for Humanity takes community volunteers and helps them build affordable housing for those less fortunate.

President Dave Hurley says they’re thankful for the support.

“The only thing we can really say is thank you to the community foundation,” he said.

“They’ve been with us ever since 2013 when we got into the first build… they’ve always been there to support us.

“Without their support things become very difficult, so we’re very pleased, very excited and very appreciative of their continued support.”

YCF President Bronwyn Watters says it’s a good cause she’s glad her organization is helping to support.

“The premise the foundation is built on is that people working together can make a difference,” she said

“Habitat for Humanity are a living, working example of people working together and making a difference.”

Habitat for Humanity plans to put the money towards purchasing new building supplies for future projects.
