People hate change.
That is, unless, you put a unique twist onto said change.
McDonald’s Canada has decided that the ‘McHappy Meal’ needed some change. The meal will stay the same; main item (cheeseburger, hamburger, chicken nuggets, etc.), side item (fries, apple sauce) and a drink (hard, black coffee. 1st grade can be rough). The ‘McHappy Meal’ toy will remain an option for children and fun-loving adults, but starting May 16th there’s a new kind of fun in town.
Its name: books.
Manager of Yellowknife’s McDonald’s location, and McDonald’s Canada Manager of the Year, Alex Bornilla says that the restaurant is focusing on education.
“Instead of a toy, it’ll be a book. Different short stories (Franklin the Turtle, Scaredy Squirrel, the Life in the Wild series and the Dragon Safety Series) and all of that kind of fun stuff… They’ll be little kids booklets so that they can fit in the ‘Happy Meal’ box and won’t take up too much space. It’s a really cool twist.”
Bornilla says that the books will only run for a limited time and will likely go quickly while supplies last.
To go along with the new launch, Canadians can help spread the love of reading through McDonald’s #OwnaBookGiveaBook donation initiative by posting a ‘shelfie’ – a photo of book shelves – including the hashtag. One book per shelfie – up to 20,000 books – will be donated with First Book Canada to children. First Book Canada provides access to new books for children across the country.
