Signs are positive that a detox centre could open in the NWT.

The Beaufort Delta Detox Centre Society Board is sitting with the GNWT to sort out the approach and cost of a potential detox centre in Inuvik.

Health and Social Services Minister Glen Abernethy is hoping to use the Yellowknife sobering centre as a starting point.

“We’ve had some individuals from the department meet with them to talk about where they want to go and help them get organized and move forward,” says Minister Abernethy. “It’s hopefully something that we can be supportive of. We’re moving forward with the sobering centre in yellowknife. We think this is a model that could be used in Inuvik so we’re looking forward to getting one up and running in Yellowknife and making sure it’s running effectively so we can use it as a learning opportunity to move into the future something like that into inuvik as well and hopefully we’ll be able to find a way in time to move forward.”

Moose FM will have a first glance at the new sobering centre in Yellowknife on Monday, July 17th.
