Highway 3 will close between Behchoko and Fort Providence Friday afternoon, according to officials with the territory’s Department of Transportation.
The DOT’s Twitter account says the stretch of highway will be closed to all traffic starting at noon to support fire management operations.
Yesterday, the department tweeted that the section could be closed until 6pm to allow crews to perform back burns along the road. The technique is often used in forest management to control burning fires.
We don’t yet know how long it will be closed for, but we will provide updates as soon as we can.

Meanwhile, the Ingraham Trail is also closed between the Cameron River Day Use Area and Tibbitt Lake because of wildfire activity in the area.
Territorial parks beyond that point remain closed to the public.
Due to increased #NWTfire activity and operational needs, #NWTHwy4 is now closed from the Cameron River day use area to Tibbit Lake.
