A memorial service for Malcolm Austin will be held at Yellowknife’s Sir John Franklin High School on Saturday.
Malcolm was six years old when he died on August 25, almost a year since he was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer known as diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, or DIPG.
Saturday’s service will begin at 1pm.

“Malcolm was an exceptional little boy possessing a great intellect, a witty sense of humour, and a loving heart,” read a family tribute this week.
“Malcolm’s favourite place to be was in the outdoors; he loved fishing, camping, cooking over an open fire, picnics, climbing rocks, gardening, and riding his bike.
“Malcolm was a courageous soul who was blessed with a loving family and many friends, an incredible medical team, and an enormous outpouring of love from our supportive community. He never gave up.”
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Malcolm’s name to Children’s Wish or the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.
