David Harrison pleads guilty to murder of Yvonne Desjarlais

David Richard Harrison has pleaded guilty to the murder of Yvonne Desjarlais in Yellowknife almost three years ago.

Desjarlais, originally from Lutselk’e, was found in an alley between 53rd Street and 54th Street in the early hours of December 30, 2012. Though rushed to Stanton Territorial Hospital, she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police subsequently issued a public appeal for information, and Harrison was charged in July 2013.

The 30-year-old pleaded guilty to second-degree murder at the Supreme Court in Yellowknife on Monday, according to police, having initially been charged with murder in the first degree.

He will be sentenced on October 26.
