Crack, steroids and a taxi – ‘successful’ month for RCMP

Police in Yellowknife seized $25,000, anabolic steroids and a taxi during a series of drug raids last month.

RCMP in the city called it “Operation Gloomier”: a series of arrests and seizures throughout September, beginning with three raids in one day at the start of the month.

A drug bust at a Yellowknife motel followed. Police now say six more people than previously reported were arrested last month in connection with trafficking. Warrants are out for the arrest of two others.

Among items seized in September’s raids: crack cocaine, Oxycodone, Fentanyl, weed, hash oil, Percocet pills and steroids. Guns, cash and three vehicles were also taken. A taxi cab now in police possession was “believed to be used to facilitate drug trafficking” according to an RCMP statement on Thursday.

“Not only did this investigation disrupt several trafficking networks, it also provided valuable insight into the local illicit drug trade, which police can use on future investigations,” said Sergeant Dean Riou, an undercover officer at the fore of anti-drugs operations in Yellowknife, in the same statement.

“While this investigation was successful, we are aware of other groups and individuals who have chosen to sell drugs in the Northwest Territories and we remain committed to holding these people accountable for their actions.”
