Nominations open for 2016 NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards

Nominations are now being accepted for the Northwest Territories Outstanding Volunteer Awards.

Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) issues calls for nominations every January in order to recognize voluntary achievements and contributions made by NWT residents.

This year marks the 26th installment of the award. Residents are encouraged to nominate deserving people in their communities.

“We have a strong and dedicated volunteer sector here in the Northwest Territories,” said MACA Minister Robert C. McLeod in a statement.

“The Outstanding Volunteer Awards are a great opportunity to recognize the effort and commitment of these volunteers, and to show our appreciation for all their hard work.”

Recipients will receive $500 to give to a volunteer organization of their choosing as well as a certificate recognizing them for their efforts in building communities through volunteering.

Awards will be presented in four categories: elder (55+), youth (under 25), individual (25-54) and group (number of people).
