Funding announced for community arena in Łutsel K’e

The community arena in Łutsel K’e will soon be usable year-round thanks to $292,875 in funding from the federal government and $100,000 from De Beers Canada.

The announcement was made by Navdeep Bains, the minister of innovation, science and economic development, who’s also responsible for the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor).

Until now, the sandy surface of the arena could only be used during the winter months.

Denesoline Corporation Ltd. will be upgrading the arena with an asphalt surface, allowing the community year-round access for sports and activities.

“Placing a hard surface in the Lutsel K’e arena has turned it from a winter hockey rink only into a year-round, multi-purpose recreational facility allowing for basketball, soccer, other sports, conventions, seminars, gatherings and so on,” said Ron Barlas, CEO of Denesoline.
