Hay River RCMP say a convenience store was robbed by an armed suspect Tuesday morning.
At around 3:45 a.m., police received a complaint of an armed robbery at The Rooster convenience store after a man in a ski mask entered the store carrying what was believed to be a rifle.
The suspect, who is believed to be of Aboriginal descent, 6ft tall, and wearing blue jeans, a black hoodie and gloves, demanded cash from the counter.
RCMP say the employee complied, and the suspect made off with approximately $200 in loose bills. Police believe the firearm may have been a .22 caliber rifle with rust and a bolt action.
“To have this type of criminal activity happen allegedly involving a firearm is concerning to the RCMP,” said police spokesperson Marie York-Condon in a statement.
“We are seeking the public’s assistance to help identify the suspect and to further our investigation to this reported armed robbery.”
Police are reviewing surveillance footage and are asking anyone with information to call Hay River RCMP at (867) 874-1111 or CrimeStoppers at 1(800) 222-8477.
