Yellowknife RCMP investigating multiple ‘violent’ assaults

Yellowknife RCMP are asking for the public’s help following a range of ‘violent’ assaults in the city over the past couple weeks.

Between Oct. 27 and Nov. 13, police received several reports of assaults ranging from stabbings to a robbery with a firearm.

The full list of reports can be found below:

  • Oct. 27: The initial report of assault with a weapon (stabbing) in downtown Yellowknife is made.
  • Nov. 10: An additional report of robbery with a firearm involving the same people is filed. It’s alleged that the incident happened on Oct. 28, a day after the initial stabbing.
  • Nov. 10: One suspect is arrested in connection with the above incidents with charges pending.
  • Nov. 13: RCMP received an early morning report of assault with a weapon (stabbing) at an apartment building in downtown Yellowknife.
  • Nov. 13: That afternoon on the same day, two reports of assault with a weapon (stabbing) were made at an apartment building in downtown Yellowknife. These were separate from the previous incident.

“The persons involved in these incidents are known to police,” said RCMP spokesperson Marie York-Condon, who added that other suspects are still being sought.

“We do not believe that the general public is at an increased risk, however, it is always advisable to be aware of your surroundings and to not become involved in any incident you may witness.

“Please just call the RCMP and we will respond.”
