GNWT finalizes framework for managing recreational leases

The GNWT has released the finalized version of its Recreational Leasing Management Framework, something it says is an important step in advancing work to improve land management practices.

The framework outlines six goals and priorities which the government is working towards as a means to improve recreational leasing practices.

Those include recognizing and respecting uses of public lands, supporting recreation management planning in priority area and modernizing leasing practices and processes.

“This document will guide how the GNWT manages recreational use of land for years to come,” said Lands Minister Louis Sebert. [pdf]

“The next step is to implement the priorities outlined in this document through the development of policies and guidelines that will help us manage recreational use of public land in a manner that is transparent.”

The GNWT says it will continue to consult with Aboriginal governments as it moves forward with priorities outlined in the framework.
