The fund is a collaboration led by the Community Foundations of Canada.

“The purpose of the Canada 150 fund is to engage Canadians from all walks of life in a wide range of local projects that build community, inspire a deeper understanding of Canada, and encourage participation in a wide range of initiatives that mark Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation,” read the YCF’s website.

The organization’s grants chair Robert O’Rourke added: “The intention is to bring Canadians together to build community, activate a groundswell of local initiatives, activities and events leading up to and during Canada’s 150th year.

“It’s responsive to local priorities and accessible to all Canadians.”

The grants range anywhere from $100 to $15,000, though recipients will have to match whatever funding they’re given either out-of-pocket, through funding from other organizations, or by volunteering their time in lieu of a salary.

Applicants apply online, where their request is then reviewed by YCF and members of the Community Foundations of Canada in Ottawa.

The organizations will discuss the potential of the applications and how successful they believe they will be before deciding whether or not to grant funding.

“When we’re looking at a project, [we look at] does it build community, inspire deeper understanding of Canada, and encourage participation of a wide-range of initiatives that mark Canada’s 150th anniversary,” O’Rourke said.

The deadline for applications has been extended to May 30. For more information, see the YCF’s website.
