The Tibbitt to Contwoyto winter road will be closing Wednesday night at midnight to northbound dispatches for the season.

Some traffic is still expected on the Ingraham Trail going south for the next couple of days as trucks make their final deliveries to the Northern mine sights before returning home.

“As far as we’re concerned it’s closed,” said Ron Near, director of Winter Road Operations with Diavik Diamond Mines.

“There won’t be any services on the road so we strongly recommend that people don’t go on it. The public can drive on the road at their own risk.

“Once we clear the road there’s not going to be any services or any support to help anyone if they do get into any situations.”
