New book sheds light on Yellowknife’s homeless

Yellowknife, NWT – The public is invited to a book launch at the Gallery on 47th in downtown Yellowknife Friday between 6 and 10pm.

Local author Kyle Thomas talks about his new book Yellowknife Street Stories.

“It’s a compilation of photographs and stories from the people that live on or survive off the streets of Yellowknife. There’s a surprising amount of optimism, everyone laughs and jokes and has a very joyful perspective on life whether their situation is rough or not.”

Thomas says he’s been working on the book since the fall of 2012.

He says it was important for him to tell the stories of those that might otherwise go unheard.

Thomas also printed 15 powerful images for people to enjoy Friday night.

The book is being sold for $45, with a portion of all sales being donated to local homeless shelters.
