City’s ‘Litter Incentives Plan’ extends to cigarette butt receptacles

Businesses in Downtown Yellowknife will be able to order cigarette butt receptacles from the City of Yellowknife.

Earlier in the year, the City had ordered and placed 45 identical wall mounted cigarette butt containers in public places. The City will be placing another round of orders and is hoping that local businesses will take advantage of the opportunity.

The containers will be sold for $250. Installation and maintenance will be the responsibility of the business owner.

They are a part of the ‘Litter Incentives Plan‘ that the city initiated last month. Other incentives include the Green Bag Kits handed out earlier in the month.

Mayor of Yellowknife, Mark Heyck, says that keeping the city litter free is a shared responsibility in order to revive the Downtown area.

We are happy to join efforts with residents and business owners to keep Yellowknife clean.

Businesses interested in acquiring a receptacle are to contact the City of Yellowknife at [email protected].

The deadline to place an order is August 13th.
