MMIW comes to Yellowknife

Those looking to participate in next weeks visit from the National Inquiry of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women have several ways to do so.

MMIW will make a quick visit to the NWT capital before the official Inquiry hearings take place in November.

“It’s a new process and like anything we’re learning along the way,” says Melissa Carlick, a Community Liaison worker with the Inquiry. “For me specifically it’s just giving them the time. This is probably my third community visit and every time is different. Every region is unique and we’re learning from each of the people.”

For safety concerns, the Inquiry will not be providing a location for next weeks visit from Tuesday, August 29th to the 31st.

The Native Women’s Society and the Family Liaison Unit will be meeting with the Inquiry all three nights from 4pm-6pm.

To set up an appointment for next weeks visit, call the Inquiry at 867-333-0837.

Another way to set up a meeting next week is by emailing [email protected] with your name, contact information, and location.
