Coroner opens investigation into death of Beverly Elanik

An Inuvik woman who died in police custody is the centre of a coroner’s inquest.
51 year old Beverly Elanik died at the Inuvik RCMP detachment on January 20th, 2016.
The Office of the Chief Coroner announced that the circumstances around Elanik’s death are being investigated.
At the time of her death, Elanik’s family was told she suffered a seizure while in custody.
The coroner’s inquest will take place in Inuvik and is expected to start on September 26th.
