City of Yellowknife preparing to take on Visitors Services

Looks like there may be a Plan B for the Visitors Centre.

The City of Yellowknife is preparing a plan to provide visitor services until March. 31st of next year. The City will work with the Government of the Northwest Territories on finding a longer term plan for visitors services.

The proposal will have to be approved at a Committee meeting next Monday. Should the plan be approved by the Council, the City will then use the funds for the Northern Frontier Visitors Association to maintain the services.

City of Yellowknife Mayor Mark Heyck says that the city needs to ensure the service is available during the winter aurora season.

We understand the importance and value that tourism creates for our economy and are striving to ensure visitors are warmly welcomed and provided the necessary information once they arrive.”

The Visitors Centre has been in the Northern Heritage Centre since late May. Their housing agreement ends on October the first.
