TerraX set to purchase YK’s Burwash Mine

TerraX Minerals is in agreement to acquire the historic Burwash Mine property.

CEO of TerraX, Joe Campbell, issued a statement:

The acquisition of the Burwash property gives TerraX complete coverage of a 3 km trend of very high grade gold and silver values extending from our Angel target to the Burwash Mine area,” says Campbell. “TerraX has completed airborne geophysics, lake sediment sampling and biogeochemical sampling over this area in the summer of 2017, and this information will be used to aggressively explore this target next year.”

In a conversation over the phone, Campbell touched on the fact that, with Burwash having the potential to be another mine near Yellowknife, the topic of arsenic could be a key one.

It’s a very important subject for the people of Yellowknife to be aware of, given the history of the Giant Mine. Right now, Burwash is very much just in the exploration stage of things.”

He added: “Modern mining is not the system that it was in the past. The environmental control that you need to go through to get a mine up and running are very rigorous.

Campbell compared it to the recent opening of Gahcho Kue.

The reason why Gahcho Kue took fifteen to twenty years is because of the engineering studies that are needed for the environmental control.

The Burwash Mine was the first gold producer in the Yellowknife gold district in 1935.
