City hopes to make facilities more accessible

The City of Yellowknife is adding onto their ‘Recreation For All’ program.

The new additions include public transit passes for eligible participants. The new ‘Access For All’ program is expected to make City-run recreational programs and activities accessible to all families in Yellowknife.

The City of Yellowknife says in a release that making the programs more inclusive should help the community as a whole.

Access For All will help foster a stronger sense of community, while also being responsive to the financial difficulties that some Yellowknife residents face.

Those who qualify will receive one years’ worth of Transit passes and a one year Family Flexi-Pass Membership, both of which provide free access to:

  • Yellowknife Transit and Yellowknife Accessible Transit Service (YATS);
  • All public and family activities at the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool, Multiplex and Fieldhouse; and
  • All drop-in programs

Yellowknife Mayor, Mark Heyck, says every citizen in the City should be able to enjoy the facilities provided by the City.

In addition to our many parks and playgrounds, free outdoor skating rinks, toboggan hills and sports fields, Access For All provides Yellowknife families more opportunities to participate in an active lifestyle.

Applicants are provided the choice between Yellowknife Transit and Yellowknife Accessible Transit Services during the application process.

Details on the Access For All program, requirements for eligibility and an application form can be found online, or picked up in person at City facilities.
