City-wide power outage due to ‘cold temperature’
An NTPC substation near Yellowknife.
Yellowknife experienced a brief power outage this morning.
The Northwest Territories Power Corporation tweeted out updates throughout the morning.
By 7:30, power was restored for the city.
Via email, Doug Prendergast, Communications Manager for the NTPC, said outage was caused by “cold temperature“. To help fix the issue, NTPC briefly transitioned to diesel.
“We are currently running at 50% diesel generation to meet the system load,” Prendergast said.
As of 10:40am today, power in Edzo had been almost fully restored.
