Trio looks to add a floating sauna to Great Slave Lake

How about a little Northern heat?

The aptly named ‘Great Slave Sauna Society’ are looking to put a sauna in the middle of the Great Slave Lake. The Great Slave Floating Sauna Project, thought up by local project managers Thomas Sven Whittaker, Peter Fredrick Kelly, and Tyler Fissel, is looking to create a “free-use community space for Yellowknife, N’dilo, and the surrounding communities.

The designer, Peter Kelly, an Intern Architect and current member of the area’s houseboating community. Kelly has studied architecture internationally in countries such as South Africa and Finland, and even has a Masters Degree in architecture from Carleton University in Ontario. Kelly’s design is inspired by his experience in Helsinki, Finland creating small public saunas.

The Society is putting together a crowdfunding campaign with the end goal of $20 000. The trio is hoping to reward donors with “an event featuring live music from local performing artists.

The campaign is scheduled to launch on January 31st, and will run until March 31st.
