NTPC introduces new generator in Aklavik test run

The Northwest Territories Power Corporation is now providing energy to the Community of Aklavik through a Variable Speed Generator.

Over 300 customers will be using the new system.

NTPC is also experimenting with solar panels that were installed just this year.

The Power Company says the new Generator will reduce diesel consumption for the community, cutting out roughly 80 000 litres per year.

This new platform will go into a one-year trial period; to which point after, NTPC will decide whether or not to install the new generator in other communities.
