GNWT wants engagement on proposed changes to energy acts

The Government of the Northwest Territories has entered public and stakeholder engagements on proposed changes to two energy acts.

The changes would be to the Petroleum Resources Act (PRA) and the Oil and Gas Operations Act (OGOA).

The engagements are being led by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment.

Minister of ITI, Wally Schumann, says proper management of our natural resources needs quality legislation.

“We’re pleased to be moving forward with changes designed to improve upon the laws we inherited from the federal government at Devolution, and value what all NWT residents, Indigenous governments and organizations, and stakeholders have to say about our proposals.”

The GNWT is calling the engagements the first step in a longer term review process to improve petroleum legislation in the territory.

The public and stakeholders discussions will continue through to May 4th.
