New NWT all-season road approved

A new all-season road will be coming to the Northwest Territories.

Fortune Minerals Limited has announced a 97-kilometre road has been approved by the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board. The project has been in development since 2012, with funding talks picking up since January of 2017.

The new Tlicho Road is expected to connect the community of Whati to the territory’s highway system at highway 3. It’ll be a 2-way gravel road and will have four bridges and one large arched culvert. It’s also expected to help improve winter road access to the communities of Gameti and Wekweeti.

The target for construction is expected for early 2019.
