Jamboree plans ice workshop to help you carve out a niche

Yellowknife’s Long John Jamboree wants aspiring ice carvers to sign up for a new workshop.

An ice carvers’ “skill-sharing workshop” will take place in the city on the afternoon of Monday, March 23 and throughout Tuesday, March 24.

Experts on hand to give your carving some polish include Ken Diederich from the National Ice Carving Association, Chad Hartson of Ice Creations, and Ikuo Kanbayashi, president of the Canadian Ice Carvers Society.

The workshop is free but there are only 25 spaces and it’s aimed at northern artists.

Carvers who have registered to take part in this year’s NWT Ice Carving Championship, or who took part in previous years, get priority.

You do get all the tools you need to carve. You don’t get meals or refreshments. Register by emailing [email protected].

The Long John Jamboree festival itself takes places from March 27-29, including the carving contest.
