City asks public to stay off the ice

The City of Yellowknife is warning residents to keep cautious and safe near ice. It says with the cooler temperatures, the ice is forming earlier than usual this year. The city asks everyone to stay off the ice for safety reasons until it measures 6 inches (15cm). The city reminds residents to call 8873-2222 if you see that someone has fallen through ice or is in distress.

The Great Slave Snowmobile Association will begin ice testing shortly and measurements will be posted at www.yellowknife.ca and updated every Monday until all areas tested have reached the 6 inch mark.
