Procession to be held for fallen cab driver

Your lunch run could be delayed on Monday. There will be a procession of taxicabs on Franklin Avenue on Monday, December 10th at noon in memory of Ahmed Mahamud Ali who was murdered in his own taxi on November 19th.

Drivers should be aware that traffic will be held up from the Community Arena to School Draw Avenue while the parade passes.

General Manager Shirley McGrath said the procession was the idea of one of City Cabs drivers to honour Ali.

“One of our drivers came to the board meeting and said we should do something to show our respect for Ahmed and also make a point with the public that we need more police protection and we need better safety for our drivers.“

In addition to City Cab drivers, Aurora Taxi drivers are also expected to participate in a show of solidarity. The loss of “Uncle Ahmed” is felt throughout the ranks of the city’s taxi drivers.
