A period of very cold wind chills is expected to hit Wekweeti, Whati, and Behchoko today and overnight. Clear skies and an arctic ridge have generated extreme cold wind chills near -50 today for parts of North Slave region.

Environment Canada warns those living in these areas that the extreme cold puts everyone at risk and to cover up as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with extreme wind chills.

They also gave out a warning to check on older family, friends, and neighbours as well as making sure to keep emergency supplies in your vehicles such as extra blankets and jumper cables.
