Health and wellness presentation coming to Yellowknife

A presentation on the health and wellness of the Northwest Territories is coming to the Yellowknife Museum. On Tuesday, January 22nd from 1 p.m. till 2 p.m., Hotıì ts’eeda will host a public lecture and discussion on health research in the territory. The lecture will discuss topics including:

  • Barriers and opportunities to improve access to cancer screening
  • Health and wellness of seniors and elders
  • Ways that diet, the environment and lifestyle can have an impact on maternal and child health

Hotıì ts’eeda will be joined by special guest Dr. Sangita Sharma from the University of Alberta Indigenous and Global Health Research Group. She will be making a presentation during the event.

Hotıì ts’eeda Communications and Knowledge Translation Advisor, Rachel McNeill says Dr. Sharma is a leader in Health Research.

“The knowledge she’s gathering through her research is critical to improving the health of people across the NWT. We are proud to have Dr. Sharma sit as a Governing Council member for Hotıì ts’eeda. She represents our organization’s drive towards improving connections between communities and researchers and putting community priorities first when it comes to health research.”

According to their website, Hotıì ts’eeda is a “research support centre for community members, organizations and researchers involved in Northwest Territories health and health research”. Hotıì ts’eeda says it’s vision is to support health research and training that is rooted in Dene Naowo, Inuvialuit and Metis knowledge and responds to the needs of patients, communities and governments.
