Multiple parka thefts reported in Yellowknife

Yellowknife RCMP have responded to multiple thefts of parkas in the last month. They say an unknown number of individuals have been targeting hotels, restaurants, stores and other public places in Yellowknife.

RCMP are reminding residents, tourists and business owners to take preventative action to ensure they do not become victims of such theft. In the event you become a victim of theft, RCMP suggest to do the following:

  • Do not leave wallets, car keys, small valuable electronics (eg: phones, tablets) and jewellery unattended in your parka or winter coat
  • Keep a copy of your ID, passport, credit cards and travel documents in a password-protected document or file on your computer or in the safe of your hotel room; do not leave those unattended

Police ask anyone with information about these thefts or other suspicious activities around area businesses to report it to the Yellowknife RCMP immediately at 867-669-1111 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 nwtnutips.com, click on “submit a web tip”, or text: nwtnutips to 274637.
