Yellowknife’s annual gumboot rally has residents dress up in group costume and compete in gumboot-themed challenges.
The long-running event gets community members involved in raising money for the Yellowknife Association for Community Living, a local charity which supports people with disabilities – intellectual and other.
The association has announced the theme of the 27th gumboot rally will be Star Wars, although trekkers and other sci-fi inspired costumes are also welcome.
“Jedis, Jawas, Jar Jar Binks, Jabba the Hut… All teams are encouraged to share their stellar sense of humour by dressing in costume based on a team-theme on May 4th,” a news release reads. “So don’t be a scruffy Nerf-herder – dress up in costume and have fun.”
The goal of the fundraiser this year is $25,000, which will go to YKACL programming including skills training, employment services, literacy outreach and supported independent living.
