2019 Long John Jamboree to be relocated

For the first time in eight years, the Long John Jamboree will be a land event due to warm weather and the worsening conditions of Yellowknife Bay. The 2019 event will be relocated to the City of Yellowknife Fieldhouse parking lot.

This will be the second consecutive season of challenging weather for the Long John Jamboree after extreme winds caused major problems for last years edition of the event.

The Board of Directors of the Long John Jamboree made the decision in light of the current situation with the Snow Castle according to a statement.

“We feel great disappointment that we cannot be down on the Bay next to our neighbours at the Snow Castle. And if we could help them move to land as well to keep their event going, we would.”

Michelle Demeule, President of the Long John Jamboree Society stated that while people will not be able to enjoy the aesthetic and emotion that being on the lake provides, the pioneering attitude of being a true northerner means that citizens must adapt to the conditions that are presented.

“The Fieldhouse is extremely accessible to everyone, there is safe parking and the majority of the site will be free of ice, making it easier for everyone to walk on. We certainly hope to see more happy, smiling faces there next weekend, enjoying the warmer weather and participating in our event.”

Details and a full schedule of events will be released shortly once all events are finalized. The 2019 edition of the Long John Jamboree will be taking place from March 29th-31st.
