A 19-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault and robbery after police asked for the public’s assistant with an ‘incident’ earlier this week.
Yellowknife RCMP asked for the public’s assistance Friday to find potential witnesses of an ‘incident causing an injury to a male victim.’ The alleged incident took place Friday, March 22nd between 1:30 and 1:45 a.m. in the downtown Yellowknife area of 50th Ave. and 50th St.
The seriously injured victim was treated at Stanton Territorial Hospital and later transported to Edmonton.
RCMP acknowledged the sparse details provided to the public following the incident, calling it an ‘investigative tool.’
“While it may seem unusual for RCMP to request a call for witnesses to an event without many details, it is important to understand that this is an investigative tool used by our members as they continue an investigation,” states RCMP spokesperson Marie York-Condon.
“As a result of the call for witnesses, (the RCMP’s General Investigative Section) was able to identify a suspect. Charges have now been laid in relation to this incident.”
The 19-year-old is charged with aggravated assault, robbery and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose. He has been remanded to custody and police say a publication ban is in place which prevents further details from being published.
