A public health advisory for smoke from the landfill fire in Hay River has been lifted.

The advisory was issued March 11th as the fire burning underground since March 3rd flared up, sending smoke drifting into the town. The advisory was precautionary and stated smoke from the fire ‘could cause poor air quality.’

Normal air quality has been observed and the advisory is no longer needed, the GNWT health department states Wednesday. “Hay River residents are encouraged to partake in normal outside activities at this time.”
