Pair of Yellowknifers get picked in WHL Bantam Draft

Yellowknife teenagers Logan Cunningham and Carter McLeod were selected in the Western Hockey League Bantam Draft last week. The yearly draft sees WHL teams selecting players from the western part of the country who have graduated from Bantam.

Cunningham, a defenseman, was selected by the Spokane Chiefs in the third round with the 59th overall pick in the draft.

Cunningham, who played for Team NT at this year’s Canada Winter Games in Red Deer finished the tournament with three points in six games. This past year, Cunningham played for Yukon Rivermen bantam team which played in B.C.

Carter McLeod, the grandson of NWT Premier Bob McLeod, was selected in the eighth round, 170th overall by the Moose Jaw Warriors.

The 15-year-old winger had 6 points in 6 games at the Canada Winter Games. He played this past season at the Edge School Bantam Prep in Calgary. He finished the year with 18 points in 30 games.
