Due to ‘severe lightning’ in the Yellowknife area Thursday afternoon, the Northwest Territories Power Corporation is warning residents of an increased possibility of power outages.
The power went out temporarily in Dettah and along the Ingraham Trail. “Transmission line from Bluefish has tripped off and will not be reset until the worst of the storm passes,” NTPC tweeted at 3:30 p.m. “Power will be restored as soon as conditions permit.” By 4:48 the power corp said power had been restored but warned lightning increases the risk of power outages.
Severe lightning in the Yellowknife area likely for the next several hours. Possibility of power outages increases during these weather conditions. Be prepared and stay safe.
